La Petite Ecole d'Edimbourg

Established in 1987, the school is run by a dedicated and passionate group of parent volunteers.  At La Petite Ecole, children aged 3*-16 years old, with a least one native French speaking parent, can improve their confidence in and enjoyment of the French language in a fun educational setting.

Our classes have max 12 children and are organised by age and the French level of the children. Our small classes create a supportive atmosphere where pupils can gain confidence in speaking with other children, guided by professional teachers.

Since 2016, LPE has also introduced new classes for older children in order to prepare them for exams like the DELF A2, B1 and B2 (this is not compulsory).

All children are encouraged to participate in a number of activities (games, songs, stories, reading, crafts) whilst also increasing their reading/writing skills, vocabulary and grammar.

Children also learn about France and the French-speaking world with a focus on different cultures, geography, history and traditions.

French becomes not just something that happens at home, but a relevant part of the outside world!

Classes take place during the school year on Tuesday afternoons online between 4-6pm (in sessions of one hour per class in reduced numbers to encourage student attention), OR in person on Saturday mornings between 9.15am-1.30pm at St Georges School (sessions last 1h40 for the youngest pupils and 2hrs for the other classes).

La Petite École is a place to have fun, practice French and make new friends, for children and parents alike.
