La Petite Ecole has set up a remote learning alternative based on a secure virtual classroom space, Google Classroom, and a videoconferencing platform, Google Meet. This will provide continuity in their learning and foster conversational skills in a collaborative space.
Google Classroom is a free service developed by Google for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and marking assignments. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. It helps save time and paper, facilitates the creation of lessons, the distribution of homework and communication, and simplifies the organisation of school work.
Homework is stored and marked in a private virtual space. Files and information are no longer sent by email but are exchanged through a secure server.
Google Meet is a videoconferencing platform adopted by thousands of schools and teachers around the world, who have had to pivot to virtual teaching. Google Meet offers many security features designed to control online classrooms, prevent disruption, and help educators effectively teach remotely.
These tools have been evaluated for their safety and are used according to the recommendations of our regulatory body, following the results of a child welfare risk assessment we have carried out.
